Caring Ministry Volunteers Needed

We have recently added a new sub-group, which will operate as part of our Caring Ministry Team. If you like to cook and share of your talents, consider being part of this team.  If you are interested in being a part of this team please contact Mary Larson in the office or leave a message for Ruth Sellers at 631-473-1582. Ruth Sellers is heading up this team.

Volunteer Opportunities from Long Island Council of Churches
NEEDED: VOLUNTEERS TO HELP THE HUNGRY
Island Harvest is seeking volunteers to help low and moderate income people to apply for the Food Stamp Program, known federally as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Currently only 30% of Long Islanders in need are receiving SNAP but many more may be eligible. Volunteers will be trained to provide application assistance and answer questions regarding the SNAP applications. Volunteers will then spend several hours a week at a community organization providing assistance—and easing the burdens on both families and food pantries. Island Harvest asks volunteers to give 4 hour per week (though it may turn out to be less) for at least 3 months. They particularly need volunteers now in Hempstead, Freeport, Roosevelt, and Uniondale. There are plans to expand the program to other locations as well.  Spanish speakers are strongly encouraged to apply. Please contact Emily Lehecka at emily@islandharvest.org or 516-294-8528x128 for more information. Some of these volunteers will soon be assisting people at the LICC’s pantries.
