[Schedule for 2012 Confirmation]
Dear Confirmation Class Member and Parents,
Welcome to the 2012 Confirmation Class.
Open to students in 8th grade and up, Confirmation begins with Thursday night Youth Group participation. Ideally, if you haven’t been coming, please begin to attend as soon as possible.
On January 8th you are invited to an orientation meeting at the church. We will cover the plan for the program and meet the mentors. The minister and the Deacon responsible for Confirmation will be available for your questions.
As you probably know, we have begun requiring criminal background checks for all volunteers working with children and youth therefore all families are asked to bring $10 to cover the cost if you have not already done so. If you have submitted $10 for your family for Sunday School or youth groups you do not need to pay the fee again. The fee is per family, per year.
We have some expenses for the 6-month Confirmation program which include purchasing printed and media materials, paying for the retreat and meals on retreat; and covering the expenses of the retreat and meals for the mentors. The total for the program is $100.00. If this is problematic, do not let it stop you from participating. Simply speak to the minister.
Beginning in January students are expected to join us for worship every week. There are pews roped off so that they can sit together. They will leave after the sermon for discussion with their mentors.
Students continue attending youth group meetings.
Your student is free to begin the community service aspect of their Confirmation commitment at any time. We require a minimum of five hours of community service, confirmed by the organization or leader of the project (for example you would obtain a letter from Mr. or Mrs. Melendez for completion of work at the Island Heart Food Pantry.) If your student is currently working to fulfill community service through school or another organization, that service will suffice.
